Sharpham Park
Roger Saul
Roger Saul is the founder and owner of Sharpham Park; a 1000 year old ancient deer park turned organic food farm offering sustainably farmed, healthy and natural food.
Roger Saul is best known for creating and growing the designer label synonymous with ‘le style anglais’, Mulberry. Beginning as a trainee buyer at John Michel, Roger set up Mulberry in 1971. In 1980 Mulberry won the Queens Award for Export and Roger became chairman of the London Designers Collection.
Throughout the 1980’s Roger developed Mulberry into a brand of international renown, opening retail shops in Europe with both ladies and Ready To Wear collections. In the 1990’s Roger launched the Mulberry Home collection for which Mulberry was again awarded the Queens Award for Export. Roger was voted British Classic Designer of the year in 1992. In 1996 he successfully floated the company on the Aim market of the stock exchange. During the 30 years that he ran the business it became one of the most successful British Fashion Brands in the world.
In 1996 Roger opened the award winning Charlton House hotel, primarily to promote the Mulberry Home Collection. However, it quickly became an exciting business in its own right and was awarded a Michelin star within its first year of opening. Charlton House hotel has since been described by Hip Hotels as one of the best 25 hotels in the world.
In 2003, Roger and his wife Monty created Monty’s; a Spa, health and beauty range. The collection consists of their own specially created essential oil treatments, which contain pure and natural oils as well as plant ingredients chosen for their quality, purity and beneficial properties. The products are available at Monty’s Spa at the Charlton House hotel and will soon be available at selected department stores.
Sharpham Park is the leading British producer of organic Spelt cereal from farm to fork.
Sharpham Park is an organic food mill and farm based near Glastonbury in Somerset. Roger bought Sharpham Park in 2004 with an aim of restoring the site to productivity, while respecting its original mixed economy. Sharpham Park’s working estate and organic food business now produces White Park Cattle, Manx Loghtan and Hebridean sheep, Red deer, walnuts and a whole range of spelt products. Their food is sold through their farm shop and café and nationwide through Waitrose, farm shops and restaurants.
In 2008 Roger launched the Sharpham Park Farm Shop and Kilver Court. Containing both secret gardens and a wellness centre, the beautiful Somerset surroundings offer a range of experiences. The area is a much coveted location for weddings, events and markets.
