Consumer Forum Members Win Big at the Growing Business Awards

30 November 2009: The Consumer Forum, a partnership of like-minded companies focused on the consumer experience, is celebrating today after no less than three members won prestigious Growing Business Awards.

The winners are:

  • LOVEFiLM – Company of the Year
  • Chemist Direct – Young Company of the Year
  • Ella’s Kitchen – Customer Excellence award

Held on 26th November and now in their 11th year, the Growing Business Awards – organized by the CBI and Real Business magazine – identify and honour innovation, international expansion, customer excellence and new product development among the UK’s finest small and medium-sized businesses. The awards ceremony was held at the London Marriott, Grosvenor Square. Last year’s Company of the Year recipient and fellow Consumer Forum member Will King, founder of King of Shaves, was also in attendance.

The Consumer Forum consists of leading high street and online retail brands brought together by LOVEFiLM chief executive Simon Calver. Launched in October this year, the Forum is working in partnership with consumers and businesses alike in order to champion the importance of positive consumer experiences. Consumer Forum members share their own knowledge of great customer service and seek out innovations to spread to the wider business community, with the aim of improving customer experiences throughout the UK.

Simon Calver, Chief Executive Officer of LOVEFiLM commented:
“The fact that three of the Consumer Forum’s founding members all won awards last night is testament to why we came together in the first place. At LOVEFiLM we’re tremendously proud of everyone involved in developing the company to achieve this level of success.  We have built the
business to be one of the leading entertainment brands and that is testament
to the hard work and commitment shown by our passionate staff, and the
loyalty and ongoing support of our studio partners and our customers,
despite some pretty tough economic times. ”

Founder of Ella’s Kitchen, Paul Lindley says: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won this award for Customer Excellence.  The Growing Business Awards are hugely competitive and this is a real accolade to the efforts we go to putting babies and kids at the heart of everything we do. We aim to listen to, empower and inform kids – so that they themselves actively choose to eat a healthier and more fun diet. Winning the award for Customer Excellence is a fantastic recognition of our efforts in this area.”

Mitesh Soma, Founder of Chemist Direct, adds: “I am ecstatic to win this award and it means a lot. Over two years we’ve grown due to a simple idea of offering value, service and convenience, which has been extremely popular with consumers.”

News focus

New research reveals just how powerful good and bad reports of customer service are when it comes to UK consumers choosing where to spend their hard earned cash. A new survey reveals that over 80% of consumers tell their friends, family and associates about their good or bad customer experiences, with three times as many (25.2%) relaying bad experiences, over good (8.4%). With nearly 100% of respondents saying bad customer service would compel them to take their business elsewhere the implications for UK businesses are clear.
